Paul Asbury Seaman Despite the title, there is nothing random about this album. At times whimsical, yes, but with the deliberate pacing we’ve come to associate with Mayr’s approach. “Rainbow on the Moon” could easily have been made by Vangelis, while the title track recalls early TD classics Phaedra and Rubycon. Best heard on a good stereo, to appreciate the layers and textures of sound here. The music on Flying Dice feels more optimistic than the melancholy tone that typifies a lot of ambient music. Favorite track: The Prophet.
